A story about a person is called a BIOGRAPHY. Sometimes it tells their whole life story. Sometimes it gives us just a peek into one part.

BIOGRAPHIES are considered non-fiction because they are true stories.

As a writer, that means that you need to be sure

that what you write must be true. You may need

to do some research and include a list of the sources

where you got your information.

If a story about a real person has parts that are made up, to fill in unknown facts, it can be labeled as being based on the life of that person, but it will be BIOGRAPHICAL FICTION. Many children's books about famous people fall in this category. Subplots and dialogue are added to make it more realistic.

Here is a book  about a man who grew up in a little village of Mexico. To write his story, I had to ask him lots of questions and learn many things about Mexico -

It's fun to read books about real people. It helps us to realize that they were much like us. We can learn from their lives and have the courage to accomplish great things, too.
